At New Leaf Academy North Carolina girls boarding school, the academic year is divided into four quarters, beginning in August and ending in
June. During one week breaks between quarters, students and staff participate in field trips, special activities, and group seminars.
In the summer students continue to learn informally through alternative activities such as producing and staging plays, participating in retreats, taking part in challenging ropes courses, hiking, rafting, bicycling, camping, rafting, and participating in community service projects. School coursework during the summer focuses on learning skills that will carry through to the next year.
